Valverde is a town and port on the island of El Hierro, in the Canary Islands. Valverde is Spanish for Green Valley, a name which comes from the green fields and rich forests that cover the hills either side of the town. El Hierro has a varied landscape with tall hills and deep valleys, peaking at over 500 metres above sea-level. The altitude can make a significant different to the climate, which is generally tropical.
On the north coast the waters are calm enough for swimming, and there is a black sand beach set in a cove. Valverde is a fantastic place for hiking, as the tops of the hills offer spectacular views of the coastline and the town below.

There is a large terminal building at Valverde, which is known locally as Puerto De La Estaca. A wide range of facilities are available to ensure you are comfortable ahead of your journey.
Getting to Valverde port
The Valverde port is located at Puerto De La Estaca, which is just under 9km from the centre of town. You can drive to the port using the HI-2 road, a journey that takes approximiately 35 minutes.
